Matt Smith joined electronica powerhouse Orbital on stage at Glastonbury this weekend during a performance of their rendition of the Doctor Who theme. Little else is as cool as this. Period.

Just doing some testing with LJ iPhone apps. Apparently there's nothing official, which seems surprising after so long, but at least there are third party options even if they appear to be limited.
Ah, here it is. The ubiquitous first post. That step which must be undertaken by all who sign up for a new service.
LiveJournal is an interesting beast to say the least. It's something of which I've had a varying opinion over the years, going from derision to confusion to acceptance. It's not a place I thought I'd find myself and truth be told I'm not sure it's a place I'll continue to use. I've been down the blog/journal road before and it's invariably ended with a whimper. Facebook is nearing the stage of boredom for me, Twitter is where it's at in my opinion... and really I don't use anything else for social networks. I know a few people on here and while I'm well outside the target demographic (as I understand it) for LJ it's still a place I've been at least a smidgen curious to check out properly some day.
I don't have a particular goal in mind with my LJ, and time will tell exactly what happens with and to it, but at least for now it's something I'm willing to give a shot. Perhaps I will take to it once joining some communities, perhaps my attempts here will flounder as they have nearly every place else.
While I don't feel it's overly likely someone will stumble across this without knowing it's here, I suppose I might as well throw a bit of information in this first post just in case.
I'm Canadian. Have been all my life, really. I'm very proudly so. There's no such thing as a perfect country and certainly there are some others out there which are held in higher esteem than Canada, however I've never stopped loving my country and truly wouldn't want to be any other nationality. At least not exclusively.
I've got a great fondness for Britain. That basically came about from many years of watching and enjoying British television shows, movies and books. There came a time a few years ago when I decided I needed to get the hell out of dodge and I wound up moving to the UK for a spell. It was a wonderful experience full of amazing memories and even more amazing friends who I miss every day that I'm not there. Ultimately I wound up coming back to Canada and despite being in the west most of my life I've moved out to Nova Scotia to be with a truly amazing woman. She's been my best friend for quite some time now and us being together as we are now seemed the logical progression in our relationship. Moreover, it's something that has always felt right and I'm extremely happy we're together.
I'm a nerd. Well, I prefer to identify as a geek but really society today is far too obsessed with labels. If I had to sit down and explain just what the differences are between a nerd and a geek I doubt I could do so effectively, however that applies to most things I'd have to try to explain. I would get only so far before just faltering and probably contradicting myself. Regardless, I've always had nerdy pursuits as major factors in my life, be it science fiction, computers or other clichés.
I'd hardly consider Doctor Who to be my life, however it's a massive part of my life. I've been a huge Doctor Who fan for a couple dozen years or more now and its resurgence in the past years has been a marvel. It's not hard at all to remember the fandom as disparate, uncool and oft times seen as just plain weird... but I've stuck with it and it's paid off. I can attribute a great many number of my friends to Doctor Who fandom and while I've lost touch with many over the years, I've held onto a good number of those long-time Whovian friends and consider them among the best people in the world.
A facet of my Doctor Who fandom is Radio Free Skaro, a podcast which I co-produce/co-host and it's been a fantastic outlet for me. Once upon a time I could count on one hand the number of (mainstream) Doctor Who podcasters I hadn't met and considered friends but the explosion of podcasting has put a stop to that. Nevertheless it's a wonderful creative outlet for me and it's allowed me to meet a wealth of amazing people who have heard the show, sit down for a drink with them, get to know them and in several cases become friends with them (or more). I can't claim to have met a great number of people through the podcast but with rare exception everyone I have met has been great and I feel incredibly enriched by the whole experience.
Those are my a couple of my highlights, and that's where I'll leave things for the moment. I still have to develop a level of comfort with LJ... as well as figuring out the level of comfort of those I know on here regarding me talking about them (in any capacity). I have to see what might be worthwhile enough to put here publicly and what has to go behind an f-lock or privately. Needless to say the first person I added to my flist was my girlfriend and I think I'll get her to give me a crash course in etiquette, navigating around most efficiently and most importantly an idea of who I should be adding initially...
Now... let's see where this all goes. Geronimo!
